DUCKS IN THE OATS [1] (Na Lachain sa Choirce). AKA and see "Bryan O'Lynn (2)," "Guiry's Favorite," "Gurney's Fancy," "Bryan O'Lynn (1)/Bryan O'Lynn (2)," "Cockled Old Man (1) (The)/Cockled Old Man (2) (The)," "John Mahinney's No. 2," "John Mahony's." Irish, Jig. D Mixolydian. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. Jackie Small, in CRÉ 5 (1999), finds "Bryan O'Lynn (1)" a related tune. John and Julia Clifford recorded "Ducks in the Oats" under the title "John Mahinney's No. 2," while Sligo fiddler Michael Gorman recorded it as "Gurney's Fancy." Breathnach had the tune from Kerry fiddler Denis Murphy, who also had a verse with it, beginning:

The ducks in the oats and no-one to turn them,
Ó, muise, Dia linn, what will we do with 'em.
