The reel is derived from the New England tune “[[Ned Kendall’s Hornpipe (2)]]", named after a famous mid-19th century keyed-bugle virtuoso from Boston, Mass.  The tune was recorded twice by Montreal fiddler Joseph Allard; in 1929 under the title "[[Reel du chauffeur]]," and again in 1937 as "Reel des chantiers."
