Jackie Small, in CRÉ V (1999), finds "Bryan O'Lynn [2]" a related tune. John and Julia Clifford recorded "Ducks in the Oats" under the title "John Mahinney's no. 2." Breathnach had the tune from Kerry fiddler Denis Murphy, who also had a verse with it, beginning:
