REEL OF MULLINAVAT [1], THE ("Seisd/Cor Muilleann A'Bata," "Cor Mhuilleann an Bhata," or "Ríl Mhuileann an Bhata"). AKA and see "Kilkenny Reel (The)," "Paddy Breen's Reel." Irish, Reel. E Dorian/Minor. Standard tuning (fiddle). AB (Breathnach): AA'B (O'Neill/Krassen): AABB (Miller): AA'BB' (O'Neill/1850, 1001 & 1915). Mullinavat is in County Kilkenny. County Sligo fiddler Michael Coleman recorded the reel in New York in 1927 (in a medley following "Tom Ward's Downfall") for the Vocalion label. Bayard (1981) sees his Pennsylvania collected "Running Through the Rain to Keep Your Hair Dry" as a form of this composition. See also the related “Hills of Old.”
