ROYAL ABERDEENSHIRE HIGHLANDERS, THE. Scottish, March (4/4 time). C Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AB. Composed by Aberdeenshire fiddler-composer biography:Alexander Walker (b. 1819). The Royal Aberdeenshire Highlanders later became the 3rd Battalion of the Gordon Highlanders. One of its officers, from 1875-1878, was W.S. Gilbert (of Gilbert & Sullivan fame) who was a captain. See also Walker's composition for one of the unit's officers, "Captain Charles Leith Hay's Reel."
According to Paul Stewart Cranford (1991) the tune still has currency among Cape Breton fiddlers.
