ROSE WITHOUT RUE (Ros gan airmealac). Irish, Air (4/4 time). G Major ('A' part) & E Minor ('B' part). Standard tuning (fiddle). AB. Paul de Grae, in his notes (2017) to the O'Neill collections remarks:
O'Neill's setting improves on its apparent source in Bunting (EB 3:12) by introducing a variation in the middle of the second part. Bunting resolves to the tonic in the fourth bar, and then repeats the same four bars, whereas O'Neill avoids resolving to the tonic until the end of the eight bars. O'Neill's setting also has a dotted rhythm, but is otherwise identical to Bunting's, including the occasional grace notes.
