CAPTAIN McBAINE'S REEL. Scottish, Reel (2/4 or cut time). G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AAB. The melody was entered into the music manuscript collection of ship's fiddler William LItten under the title "Scotts Reel". Litten sailed with the British East India fleet on a voyage during the years 1800-1802, although little else is know about him. His music manuscript later came into the possession of an American whaler, Allen Coffin, who brought it home with him to Martha's Vineyard, Massachusetts, after his own voyages to the far east.
