BIRD IN THE BUSH, THE (An tÉan ar an gCraobh). AKA and see "Bird in the Tree (The)," "Bird on the Tree." Irish, Reel. G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AB (Mulvihill): AABB (Mallinson, O'Brien, Sullivan, Taylor, Tubridy). "Bird in the Bush" is attributed to Kerrypiper and fiddler Billy Hanafin (1875-?) from Callinafercy [1]. The reel was famously recorded for the Victor label by fiddler Michael Coleman (1891-1945), originally from County Sligo, in New York in March, 1927, issued as "The Bird in the Tree", the second tune in a medley with "Kerryman's Daughter (The)." Galway fiddler Aggie Whyte also called the tune "Bird in the Tree." See the related tune "Two Birds in the Tree, a nomen from peripetetic Sliabh Luachra fiddler Pádraig O'Keeffe for a similar sounding, but different tune.
