Tune properties and standard notation
FAREWELL WHISKEY. Old-Time, Breakdown. USA, Mississippi. A Major. AEae tuning (fiddle). The tune recorded by Tishomingo County, Mississippi, fiddler John Hatcher in 1939 for the Library of Congress is thought to be without recorded or published variants, although it was probably not composed by him, as another Mississippi fiddler of the time, John A. Brown, also knew the tune. The melody itself features fiddle harmonics on the bass string, and is a difficult piece to perform. The high part bears a faint resemblance to "Rye Whiskey" or "Drunken Hiccups (1)" which also features plucked strings.
