REPUBLICAN SET, THE. AKA and see "Doc Boyd's Jig," "Old Jubiter," "Reel de I'île Bizard," "Reel du forgeron (2)." American, Canadian; Jig or March (6/8 time). USA, southwestern Pa., Michigan. D Major (Bayard-King): G Major (Bayard-Horner). Standard tuning (fiddle). AB. A jig of unknown provenance. Paul Gifford notes the tune has been collected from Michigan sources, and Montreal fiddler Joseph Allard recorded it in the early 1930's as "<incipit title="load:bizard" width=850 link="https://tunearch.org/wiki/Reel de I'île Bizard">Reel de I'île Bizard</incipit>." Ira Ford included a version in his Traditional Music in America (1940) as "<incipit title="load:jubiter" width=850 link="https://tunearch.org/wiki/Old Jubiter">Old Jubiter</incipit>"--a collection of largely tunes he encountered in Missouri, but which came from a variety of source from widespread areas.
