French-Canadian, Reel (cut time). C Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AA'BBCC. Allard researcher Jean Duval expertly unravels this tangle of reels, which begin with Allard's 1929 recording of the tune under the title "Reel de mon maton." First, Duval finds that, while Maton is a family name found in various parts of Quebec, the title may have been the result of a spelling error on the part of the recording company. In researching the Victor recording notes of August 7, 1929, he finds the original title was "Le reel de mon matou" (My cat's reel)[1].
