STRATHEARN STRATHSPEY. AKA and see "Among the Houghs of Cromdale." Scottish, Strathspey (whole time). A Minor (Cole): G Minor (Athole, Gow): A Mixolydian (McLachlan). Standard tuning (fiddle). AB (Cole): AAB (Athole, Gow). Composed by Dunkeld fiddler-composer biography:Niel Gow (1727-1807), although attributed to his son biography:Nathaniel Gow by McLachlan, and considered to be in pipe style although it has a range of ten notes (rather than the usual nine for pipe style proper). Strath means 'valley,' in this case the valley of the Earn river in Perthshire, Gow's home county.
