TON, THE. Scottish, March (2/4 time). A Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. The tune was first published by John Watlen in his volume of melodies played at the Edinburgh circus in 1791. He attributed the composition to "Sigr. Edelman." The melody was also entered into the music manuscript collection of Somerset shoemaker and fiddle player William Winter, who lived in the villages of Lydeard St Lawrence and West Bagborough between 1774 and 1861.
