TOWN OF GALWAY. Irish, Waltz (3/4 time). G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). One part. The waltz was composed by Joe Derrane and Tommy Shields. Around the time the waltz was published in O'Brien's Irish Folk Dance Music (1952), a song called "The Town of Galway" sung by Connie Foley was issued on the Copely label (Copely 149-125, 45 RPM). Foley recorded with the Joe Derrane Trio in the early 1950's. The song begins:

I left my old sweetheart one morning in May,
And twas just as the liner was leaving he quay;
When I held her closely and i heard her say,
You'll remember me dear and the Town of Galway.
