EIGHTH OF JANUARY [3]. American, Reel (2/4 or cut time). D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABBC. This "Eighth of January" tune, simplified to the point of unrecognizability from the usual breakdown that goes by this name, was played at a slower, more leisurely tempo by the original artists, the Arkansas Barefoot Boys.
