DORSET, LA. AKA and see "Lancers Quadrilles First Figure (The)," "London Lanciers Figure 1." English, Quadrille (6/8). F Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). ABCDA. The melody was composed by either Ernesto or his father Paolo Spagnoletti (1768-1834), the latter a famous Italian violinist and composer who moved to London around the turn of the 19th century. It is used here for the first movement of the "Lancers Quadrilles." The figure "Les Tiroirs" is sometimes used as a substitute for the first movement. Garth Notley[1]suspects the figure was named after the Duchess of Dorset who was living in Dublin at this time and hosted several popular balls. See Annotation:Lancers Quadrilles (The) for more.

The Lancers Quadrilles by Spagnoletti, c. 1860
The melody was entered into the mid-19th century Sliabh Luachra music manuscript in the possession of D. Curtin as "Lancer Quadrille" (No. 74, p. 30 [1]).
