JOHN ARSCOTT OF TETCOTT. AKA and see "Difyrrwch Gwyr Dufi." English. England, Devonshire. The tune predates by 75 years the Welsh version "Difyrrwch Gwyr Dufi." John Arscott of Tetcott [1] (c. 1718-1788) was a Devonshire squire, whose excesses and kindnesses were remembered variously by different writers. All seem to agree that he was fond of conviviality, and that his greatest joy was the hunt. Sabine Baring Gould, in Devonshire characters and strange events (1908, pp. 47-57), devotes a chapter to him.
