BANGOR REEL, THE. AKA and see "Bridie Morley's," "Cronin's Reel (2)," "Indian on the Rock," "Knotted Cord (1) (The)," "Junior Creehan's Favorite." The name Bangor was a word for a special kind of plaited wattle fence that apparently was used chiefly by monks, as towns (in Wales and Ireland) with this name began as monasteries (Matthews, 1972). The monastery in Bangor's case was established by St. Deiniol around 525, and several of the later kings of the Welsh kingdom of Gwynedd were buried there.
