Back to Just as I Was in the Morning

JUST AS I WAS IN THE MORNING. Scottish, English; Jig. D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. John Glen (1891) finds the earliest appearance of the tune in print in Robert Bremner's 1757 collection. However, it was printed a year earlier in both David Rutherford's Compleat Collection of 200 of the Most Celebrated Country Country Dances (London, 1756) and John Johnson's Two Hundred Favourite Country Dances, vol. 7 (London, 1756). It was included by Cheapside, London, musician Walter Rainstorp in his music manuscript collection begun in 1747. See also Northumbrian musician William Vickers' version as "Just as She Was in the Morning."
