BILLY O'ROURKE'S JIG [1]. AKA and see "Johnny/Johnnie McGill/MacGill" (Pa.), "Come Under My Plaidie," "Before I Was Married," "Black Rogue [1]." Irish, Jig. G Major (Cole, Ryan, White): D Major (Shields/Goodman). Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. The melody was included three times in the music manuscripts of Church of Ireland cleric James Goodman (1828-1896), notes Paul de Grae. Goodman was an Irish speaker and uilleann piper who collected in tradition in County Cork and elsewhere in Munster, and who also gleaned tunes from other musicians' manuscripts and printed sources. See also his "Droichead Loch Gearr" and "Black Rogue [2]."
Printed sources: Cole (1000 Fiddle Tunes), 1940; p. 71. Ryan's Mammoth Collection, 1883. Shields/Goodman (Tunes of the Munster Pipers), 1998; No. 435, p. 170. White's Unique Collection, 1896; No. 20, p. 4.
