GRUB SPRINGS [2]. Old-Time, Breakdown. USA, Mississippi. A Major. AEae (although Jody Stecher insists it is ADae) tuning (fiddle). AABB. A variant of "Grub Springs (1)." The version is from Mississipi fiddler W. Ernest Claunch, recorded by Herbert Halpert on a field trip for the Library on Congress in 1939.
Source for notated version:
Printed sources: Songer (Portland Collection), 1997; p. 91.
Recorded sources: Bay 209, "The Gypsy Gyppo String Band" (1977. The source is given as W.E. Claunch, erroneously listed as a 'Kentucky' fiddler). Mississippi Department of Archives and History AH-002, W.E. Claunch - "Great Big Yam Potatoes: Anglo American Fiddle Music from Mississippi" (1985).
