Another period American manuscript containing the melody (under the "Bonny Lass of Aberdeen" title) is Litchfield, Conn., musician Morris Woodruff's 1803 music copybook. Morrison gives it as a dance and tune popular in post-Revolutionary War America, perhaps with additional evidence other than Gibbs. The melody appears in James Oswald's Caledonian Pocket Companion (1743-59).
