BRIDGE OF LYON. Scottish, Strathspey. G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AAB. Composed by Malcolm MacDonald, the melody first appears in his first collection of 1788, dedicated to Mrs. Baird of Newbyth. The River Lyon is a tributary of the River Tay and runs through scenic Glen Lyon. The bridge is near the village of Fortingall in Perth and Kinross, where there is a local legend that Pontius Pilate was born here to a local mother and a Roman father. A neolithic standing stone is nearby, named the 'Bridge of Lyon Standing Stone'.
