BASKET OF OYSTERS [2]. Irish, English; Jig. D Major (Kidson, Levey): F Major (Vickers): G Major (Kennedy). Standard tuning. One part (Kidson): AB (Levey): AABB (Vickers): AABBCCDDEE (Kennedy). This tune was used by Thomas Moore as the vehicle for one of his songs in Irish Melodies (1834). The tune is actually made up of the first strain of ""Greensleeves" coupled with the second strain of "Paddy the Weaver." It appears in Northumbrian musician William Vickers' 1770-72 music manuscript collection (pg. 22) under the title "Basket of Oysters or Green Sleeves." See also the related "Bunch of Currents [1]," "The Bunch of Roses [3]," "Christmas Comes but Once a Year," "I've got one daughter to marry," "I'm a Silly Old Man," "The Little Bogtrotter," "Shady Lane," "Spring in the Air."
