LEITRIM JIG [1], A/THE (Port Liadroma). AKA and see "Andy McGann's Fancy," "Charlie Harris' Jig." Irish, Double Jig. G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AB (Breathnach): AABB (Mulvihill). No relation to "Leitrim Jig (2) (The)." According to Bronx flute player Jack Coen, originally from County Galway, the title refers not to County Leitrim, but to Leitrim parish in Galway, where accordion player Joe Burke and others played. An air variant of this melody appears in Bunting's collection as "Faire! Faire! ar Aghaidh! ar Aghaidh!" (Watch! Watch! Forward! Forward!). Breathnach (1963) says O'Neill's "Lullaby for Irish Pipes" and "Lasses of Limerick" (Waifs and Strays of Gaelic Melody, 1922, Nos. 9 & 182) are derived or related to this tune (and he notes O'Neill obtained "Lasses of Limerick" from early 19th century piper O'Farrell's Pocket Companion for the Irish or Union Pipes). "Gold Ring (1) (The)" is a related tune, as is "Old Tipperary" and "Jolly Banger (2) (The)."
