VALSE DES CHEROKIS (Cherokee Waltz). Cajun, Waltz. USA, Louisiana. D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AA(Vocal)BBAA(Vocal)AABB. Raymond Francois (1990) relates the name Cherokis denotes not only the Indian tribe but also a small tree often used as firewood on the prairie. Related songs are Aldus Roger's and Don Guillory's versions of "Two-Step a' Comeaux." The “Midland Two-Step” is also a duple-time version of the melody.
