MAIDIN LUAN CINCÍSE ( AKA - "Maidin Luan Chincíse." Irish, Air (4/4 time). D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). One part. The Irish lyric was originally written by poet and scribe Micheál Óg Ó Longáin (1766-1837), and laments the relative lack of assistance from the province of Munster in the Rising of 1798, when there were significant rebellions in the provinces of Leinster and Ulster:
Maidin Luan Chincíse labhar an síofra sa ngleann,
Do bhailíodar na cága chun ábhacht a dheanamh ann
Do chruinníomar ina dtimpeall is do lasamar ár dtinte,
Is do thógamar ceo draíochta go haoibheann ós a gceann.
Ó Longáin sympathized with the United Irishmen and participated in the rebellion as a courier for the movement. He is sometimes also sometimes credited with authoring "Sliabh na mBan."
