The tune first appears in fiddler-composer Daniel McLaren's (Taymouth, Perthshire) Collection of Strathspey Reels, etc., published at Edinburgh in 1794. It was reprinted by James Aird in 1796 on a page with two other tunes from the McLaren collection, "Bodachan a Garidh" and "Bodachan a Garidh."
