Back to Lyons' Favourite
LYON'S FAVOURITE. AKA and see "Maurice Carmody's Favourite," "Morrison's Jig (1)," "Paddy Stack's Fancy Jig," "Stick Across the Hob (The)." Irish, Jig. E Dorian. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABC. The tune is almost universally known among Irish musicians as "Morrison's" or "Morrison's Jig", and is frequently played at sessions. The "Lyon's Favourite" title is idiosyncratic to source Johnny O'Leary -- the accordion player learned it from fiddler Padraig O'Keefe in Lyon's pub, Castleisland, County Kerry, and hence the title. O'Keefe was itinerant and sometimes traveled without a fiddle; one was kept on hand for him in both Lyon's and Horan's establishments in Castleisland.
