The tune was composed by County Tipperary fiddler Seán Ryan and called "Road to Rio." The 'McCollam's' title in named for Martin Mulvihill's source, County Antrim fiddler Frank McCollum, who either did not have a name for it or from whom Mulvhill neglected to get the title.
