'''COUNT SAX'S MARCH'''. Scottish, March (cut time). G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). The tune appears in James Gillespie's  '''Manuscript of Perth''' (1768, p. 24), although it seems to have been earliest published in Charles and Ann Thompson's '''Compleat Tutor for the Hautboy''' (London, 1758, p. 11). It was also set by William McGibbon. The march appears in numerous instrumental tutors and fife (martial) publications and manuscripts throughout the second half of the 18th century, as well as a few fiddlers' manuscript copybooks on both sides of the Atlantic. See note for "Count Sax's Minuet" for information on Saxe.
