Composed by biography:Robert Whinham (1814-1893), a musician, teacher, composer, dancing master and fiddler, originally from Morpeth. Underneath the title in the manuscript version is a dedication to Miss Thompson, Gofton (see note for "Annotation:Mrs. Thompson of Gofton's Strathspey).
