NIGHTINGALE [3], THE. Irish (?), Reel (2/4 time). G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AB (Bayard): AABBCCDDEE (O'Farrell). A tune of unknown provenance. Uilleann piper O'Farrell was certainly Irish (although he performed in London for the last decade of the 19th century), but his collection has tunes from England and Scotland as well as Ireland. A distanced version was collected in southwestern Pennsylvania in the mid-20th century by Samuel Bayard, from a single source.

Source for notated version: John Kirkpatrick (elderly fiddler from Indiana County, southwestern Pa., 1951; learned from his father) [Bayard].

Printed sources: Bayard (Dance to the Fiddle), 1981; No. 363, pp. 357-358. O'Farrell (Pocket Companion, vol. III), c. 1808; p. 58.
