OLD WOMAN'S MONEY [1] (Airgead Caillighe). Irish, Air (6/8 time). G Major/G Mixolydian. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABBCC. The earliest appearance of the tune is in Church of Ireland cleric James Goodman's mid-19th century music manuscripts. Goodman (1828-1896) was an uilleann piper and an Irish speaker who collected locally in County Cork and elsewhere in Munster. He also obtained tunes from manuscripts and printed collections. The melody seems related to the large "Gold Ring (1) (The)" family of tunes.

Source for notated version: James Buckley, a Limerick piper, about 1852 (Joyce).

Printed sources: Joyce (Old Irish Folk Music and Songs), 1909; No. 145, pp. 73-74. Shields/Goodman (Tunes of the Munster Pipers), 1998; No. 391, p. 154 (appears as "Airgiod Caillighe").
