Back to Wallop the Cat
WALLOP THE CAT. Irish. The tune is a variant of "Whish Cat from under the Table." O'Sullivan (1983) reports that a field recording of the tune was made from the singing and playing of Co. Cork accordion player Conchubhar Ó Laoghaire in 1979, with the following verse learned from his father and grandmother:
Wallop the cat, he's fine and he's fat,
Wallop the cat from under the table.
Wallop the cat, he's fine and fat,
Wallop the cat from under the table.
The first strain of "Huish the Cat" is congate with the first strain of "Wallop the Cat."
