Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. Bayard's (1981) fifer source was familiar with the duple time Scots piece called "Lass o' Gowrie (1)," but said this was the "old way" of playing the piece, though they actually have little in common. As "Wicklow's March" the tune appears in the 1777 music manuscript collection of American fifer Giles Gibbs.

Sources for notated versions: Hiram Horner (fifer from Westmoreland and Fayette Counties, Pa., 1944; Bayard indicates it was learned from Scottish army fifer Dick Gibson) [Bayard].
