WITHIN THIS VILLAGE DWELLS A MAID [1] (Annsa baile seo comnaideann aindear). AKA and see "When I breathe a fond adieu," "Ar A' mBaile Seo Ta an Chuilfhionn" (In this village dwells the fair lady/In this village there lives a fair maid), "Cuilfhionn Brocach." Irish, Slow Air (3/4 time). G Major (O'Neill): E Major (Haverty, O'Sullivan/Bunting). Standard tuning (fiddle). One Part (Bunting): AB (O'Neill's). The melody can also be found in Crosby's Irish Musical Repository (pp. 164-165) under the title "Within this Village Dwells a Maid." O'Sullivan (1983) prints Gaelic words to the tune, whose origin is in Connacht Irish, "probably the same as that of the tune."

Source for notated version: the air was noted by the Irish collector Edward Bunting (1773–1843) at Deel Castle, Ballina, County Mayo, in 1792.
