Researcher Conor Ward finds the same tune in the c. 1885 music manuscript collection of fiddler Francis Reynolds of Gaigue, Ballinamuck, County Longford, under the title "Captain Kelly's Reel (3)," albeit with the parts reversed from Stephen Grier's "New Miss McLeod."
