Tune properties and standard notation

DENIS MURPHY'S SLIDE [3]. Irish, Slide. Ireland, Sliabh Luachra region of the Cork-Kerry border. D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. A popular and well-known slide in County Kerry. Paul de Grae remarks of his late friend Tom Barret (Breathnach's source): "Tom disliked the idea of untitled tunes, and when he later recorded this one he called it 'Bedford Cross' after his native place, near Listowel, where it was a popular tune in his youth."

Source for notated version: accordion player Johnny O'Leary (Sliabh Luachra region) [Moylan]; Tom Barrett [Breathnach].

Printed sources: Breathnach (CRE II); No. 85, p. 45 (appears as "Gan ainm"). Moylan (Johnny O'Leary), 1994; No. 74, p. 43.

Recorded sources: Topic 12T357, Johnny O'Leary - "Music for the Set" (1977. Appears as "Murphy's"). See also listing at Alan Ng's Irishtune.Info [1].
