PITT’S FANCY. English, Jig. B Flat Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. Perhaps the title refers to William Pitt (1708-1778), “the Elder,” 1st Earl of Chatham, who was Secretary of State during the Seven Years War (in America, the French and Indian War) and later Prime Minister of Great Britain. The tune was first published in John Hinton’s Universal Magazine of Knowledge and Pleasure (London, 1758).
