POPPY LEAF HORNPIPE. American, Canadian, Irish; Hornpipe. USA, New England. Canada; Prince Edward Island, Cape Breton. G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB (Cole, McNulty, Miller & Perron, Mulvihill): AAâBBâ (Cranford). "Can be used as a Clog" (Cole). The tune first appeared in Ryanâs Mammoth Collection (1883), and its direct successor Coleâs 1000 Fiddle Tunes (1940), from which it was picked up by both Irish-American and Canadian fiddlers. It was recorded, for example, in the mid-20th century by Cape Breton fiddler Winston "Scotty" Fitzgerald, and by Irish-American fiddler Kathleen Gardiner Harrington.
