ALTERATIONS. English, Country Dance Tune (2/4 time). A Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. The tune appears to be unique to London publisher John Johnson's Choice Collection of 200 Favourite Country Dances, vol. 8, variously dated 1758 and c. 1753. Graham Christian (2015) associates the title with the tailor and millinery trades, kept busy by the need to keep in fashion. Older clothes of good material, he points out, were often recycled, updated to the newest styles or transformed into a new garment.
