PULLET [3], THE. AKA and see “Boys of Portaferry (The).” Irish, Reel. G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. David Taylor (1992) believes the root tune of this and related melodies to be a Scots tune called "Pigeon on the Gale" (not to be confused with the modern similarly-titled "Pigeon on the Gate"). See also the related “Sporting Boys (1).” See also "Pullet and the Cock (The)," "Tarraing thar timpeall an Bhothair i."
Sources for notated versions: flute player Pat Meehan (b. 1960, south County Sligo) [Flaherty]; set dance music recorded at Na Píobairí Uilleann, late 1980’s [Taylor].
Printed sources: Flaherty (Trip to Sligo), 1990; p. 105 (appears as “Unknown”). Taylor (Music for the Set: Blue Book), 1995; p. 29.
Recorded sources: Tara 3005, Planxty – “The Woman I Loved so Well.” NPU 007, Declan Masterson & Kevin Glackin – “Face the Hob.”
