Henry Atkinson (1670-1759) was a Northumbrian musician, probably a fiddler, was the son of a yeoman who became a successful coal trader in Newcastle, Northumberland, at the beginning of the Industrial Age. He used some of his wealth to help fund a charity school in 1709.
