The "Champion Hornpipe" is credited in Köhlers’ Violin Repository (Edinburgh, 1881-1885) to the great 19th century fiddler and composer biography:James Hill, of Tyneside, Newcastle, renowned for his hornpipe compositions. The title honors Harry Clasper [1] (1812-1870), a Tyneside professional rower and boat builder who assisted in the development of the racing shell.
