DUKE OF LEINSTER'S WIFE, THE. AKA and see "Ladies' Pantalettes (The)," "Lady's Pantalettes (The)," "Gardiner's Favorite." Irish, Reel. The tune is often played after "The Duke of Leinster," and the title "Duke of Leinster's Wife" came about through this association, to emphasize the pairing and because use of the real title, "Ladies Pantalettes," was considered risque in some circles. The duke's wife, however, was a real personage with an interesting story-see note for "Duke of Leinster." It was recorded by County Sligo/New York fiddler Michael Coleman in 1927.
