'''RUTLAND'S REEL.''' Bluegrass, Breakdown/Reel.  A Minor. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABCBDDEEDDB. Part of the tune is from fiddler Robert “Georgia Slim” Rutland (1916-1969) who obtained it from his grandfather's fiddle book and used it as a show tune; other parts were added by Howdy Forrester, who named the whole for his mentor. The first strain is similar to that of blackface minstrel James Buckley’s "[[Dar's Sugar in de Gourd]]," which appears in '''Ryan’s Mammoth Collection''' and '''Cole's 1000''', and which may be the original source for the tune.
