MOTHER'S DELIGHT (Aoibhneas na Máthar). AKA and see "Malloy's Favorite." Irish, Reel. Ireland, County Donegal. D Dorian. Standard tuning (fiddle). AAB (Breathnach): AABB (Taylor). A three-part tune he called "Mother's Delight" was recorded by fiddler James (Jim) Clark (1887-1938) of Drumlish, Co. Longford, in October, 1928 in New York. That version was also recorded by Michael Coleman on a privately made disc. For that tune setting, see the entry for "Malloy's Favorite." Two of the three parts were notated from Donegal fiddler John Doherty for The Northern Fiddler, though the editors mis-identified it as "The Cameronian.

A different two-part tune, sharing only a single part with the Coleman/Clark setting, has become known under the "Mother's Delight" name via recordings by Paddy Glackin (on his eponymous first 1977 LP, played on the viola), Bobby Casey and others. All these settings have a resemblance to the family of tunes that includes "Colonel McBain", "Sean Frank" and "Johnny's Wedding."
