DRUNKEN REEL, THE. Irish, Reel. Ireland, northern Ireland. E Dorian ('A' part) & D Major ('B' part). Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. Related to "Pigeon on the Gate (2)." See also "Drunken Piper (2)." Feldman & O'Doherty's source for the tune, fiddler Peter Turbit of south County Tyrone, had learned his music from his Uncle Ned around the turn of the 20th century, and was relatively isolated and unaffected by more modern fiddling styles. His repertoire and playing was considered archaic; more slow and 'rustic', with idiosyncratic elements.

Source for notated version: fiddler Peter Turbit [Feldman & O'Doherty].

Printed sources: Feldman & O'Doherty (The Northern Fiddler), 1979; p. 236.
