'''LAMENT FOR SARSFIELD [3]'''. AKA and see "[[Sarsfield's Lamentation]]." Irish, Slow Air (3/4 time). D Minor. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. O’Neill states this melody is “entirely distinct from the melody of that name in modern publications” (for which see “Lament for Sarsfield [1]”). He obtained it from The Hibernian Muse, printed in London, 1787. The title refers to General Patrick Sarsfield, the Irish commander at the Siege of Limerick, a circumstance that O’Neill says “obviously accounts for its being confounded in later times with ‘Limerick's Lamentation’. This composition bears no resemblance except in name to the "[[Lament for Sarsfield]]" No. 433 in O'Neill's Music of Ireland, Chicago, 1903.
